Lorraine Jones-Lawrence, a dedicated public relations practitioner for over two decades, is a leading advocate for grieving children in Jamaica. She has organized seminars and workshops since 1999, sensitizing professionals to the complexities of childhood grief. This book is inspired by her personal journey and following the death of her beloved son, André. Drawing on her experiences and her training in bereavement support, she offers guidance and comfort to those navigating the challenging path of grief.

Lorraine Jones-Lawrence, a dedicated public relations practitioner, has channelled her passion into advocating for grieving children, often the overlooked mourners in society. With a career spanning over two decades, Lorraine has been at the forefront of sensitizing the Jamaican public to the unique needs of bereaved children. Since 1999, she has organized transformative seminars and workshops, empowering professionals working with children to understand and address the complexities of childhood grief.

In 1999, Lorraine founded Survivors Support Network, later renamed Survivors Unlimited, creating a platform for hosting impactful seminars focused on grieving children. Over the years, she brought together educators, guidance counsellors, and childcare professionals from across Jamaica to engage with local and North American experts. Lorraine’s commitment to this cause deepened in 2009 when her own son tragically lost his life. Drawing from her personal journey and extensive training in grief support facilitation, she embarked on writing ‘You Gotta Get Up – Surviving the Loss of Your Child.’ Her insights and dedication illuminate the pages of the book, offering invaluable guidance to those navigating the challenging path of grief.
